quickly DnD some file into some directory, you need to be fast to trigger the bug ... minimize the drag time, best move into a folder located directly near the file.
--> file will still be shown in parent directory, but is not there any more CTRL+R will update the view.
That will work only once for each file. One can create a new file, which than can be affected by the bug.
Thanks for testing ... possibly related to system performance, or some other factor.
For @reubengreen73 it seems to happen often on my WIP branch, he does not even need to be fast there. But Reuben cannot reproduce on master. I can reproduce on both, but only if I do the drag very quickly.
I've had this since a fresh install of 20.04 with thunar 1.8.14 - ALL files remain in the right pane until manually refreshed with F5. I have a dim memory of there being a hack to solve this with refresh time or something...
Yea, seems to be another facet of it. I guess Harald is right with his comment: Best would be to re-write that whole reload part, using a queue approach together with some delay.
For remote location performance Iit would probably help alot if refresh would only happen once, and only when really needed. I'll open a new issue for it. Edit: #313 (closed)

I just took a try for multiple files .. for me it's the same like for a single file. If I am quick, all files are still visible. The attached patch fixes it for me. So possibly the same defect.
Is this issue totally fixed?
I use thunar master and occasionally, the view isn't refreshed on paste, deletion, download, etc.
Unfortunately, I can't give steps to reproduce, but when it occurs, it is systematic: no more refresh at all, and one has to completely restart thunar (including daemon).
The last time it happened, I grabbed some logs (I think they appeared after a manual refresh of the view):
