"Focus follows mouse" doesn't work if something has just been copied to the clipboard

    Xfwm 4.16.1

    1. have window A in focus
    2. copy something to the clipboard from window A
    3. mouse over window B
    4. attempt to paste into window B
    5. it doesn't work because window B was not given focus when moused over
    6. have to click window B to paste into it

    It's especially irritating because copying something between windows is the main reason that i would be changing focus back and forth between them.

        Can you look at the animation if Im copying and pasting like you are?

        yes

        Can you look at the animation if Im copying and pasting like you are?

        I'm not minimizing window 1 and i'm not right clicking in window 2 to paste. I'm using the keyboard to paste.

        I feel like I've experienced this before with stuff like "copy to clipboard" in github and copying things from the file manager or firefox, but after testing more I can only get this to happen 100% with the Bitwarden browser extension and copying a password to the clipboard.

        Actually, I just noticed that "focus follows mouse" doesn't work at all when any firefox extensions have a panel open. Maybe this isn't related to the clipboard at all.

        Focus follow mouse relies on enter/leave events, if a client has a grab on the pointer, focus-follow mouse cannot work reliably.

        When you click on the icon for an extension in the toolbar and controls or whatever appear. The "main menu" of a typical extension. Like in Ublock Origin it's the place with the big power button symbol. It disappears when I press the printscreen button so I can't screenshot it.

        Like a popup window? Then it is normal, those grab the pointer and therefore break focus follow mode because xfwm4 do not get the enter/leave events.

        They're not "windows" in the sense that I would understand that word. Here, I found an image from google.ublock-origin-advanced-new-ui

        Define "grab the pointer". You mean like when the cursor is moved over the default option of a dialog box?

        A pointer grab basically means that all pointer events get reported to the client who issues the grab.

        [*] Now, we probably could get away with Xi2, but it seems it causes all sort of other problems with some apps, so I disabled it in 4.16.
