xfce4-panel: some notification area icons change with message popup, and don't revert (panel 4.15 (4.16pre1))

when some applications issue a popup notification, their icon in the system tray/notification area changes to an info icon (see attached image). clearing the notification does not revert the icon to its' previous state.

FWIW, this behavior is not observed in the 4.14 panels.

attached is a screenshot of the same ksnip working with the 4.14 panel. note the info icon is inside the popup message and the system tray icon is not changed.

Do you have compositing enabled and if not, could you check if that makes a difference? (window manager tweaks)

Are you sure that you're using the identical version of ksnip and apt notifier? It simply looks like the applications' behavior has changed...

yes, the only change is the panel update from the 4.14 panel to the 4.16 panel (and the change in systray plugins). the same version of ksnip and apt-notifier work perfectly well with the 4.14 panel systray.

If I update to the rest of the Xfce 4.15/4.16 components, but leave the panel at 4.14, the problem does not occur.

issue persists with panel 4.15.5

same issue persists with the xubuntu 21.04 daily (December 12, 2020) and ksnip from the configured ubuntu repositories on the daily iso. tray icon is fine until ksnip issues a popup message. this is translated into a notification popup, the tray icon changes to an info icon, and when the notification is cleared, the tray icon does not change back to the original ksnip icon.

as of the 12/23/2020 xubuntu 21.04 daily, the panel issue with Qt popup notifications is still present. I test with ksnip, but others are affected.

Please stop posting that it's still not fixed as long as there isn't any indication that anybody looked for or found a fix. (We usually link commits and issues, so you'll notice once we believe we found a fix.) Thanks! :)
