Clean release of LVM VGs on removable storage

Description

Usually a USB key or disk is MS-DOS partitioned and mounted volumes can be unmounted via the "Unmount" option in the context menu of the volume. Now I have an external hard disk which is partitioned by LVM2. It's still possible to unmount mounted volumes as usual. But the volume groups are staying active when I unplug the device. The second option "Eject" is greyed out, probably due to the existing and active LVM volume groups.

My suggestion is either of:

  • (preferred) release the concerned volume group(s) and then release the device via the "Eject" menu item
  • Add another menu item (e.g., "release LVM volume group 'xyz'") for that special purpose. Only visible if applicable
