XFCE hangs during RAID resync

Description
I accidentaly double clicked on my RAID volume icon on my XFCE desktop, which caused Thunar to attempt to mount it. This apparently triggered a resync in the RAID, and so almost everything stopped responding. All the file icons disappeared from the desktop, no keyboard shortcuts work, the right click menu also does not show up. Some sensors in my panel are updating and respond to mouseovers but not to clicks. The resync itself is not very resource-intensive, I can use the system from the tty consoles, and I could definitely kill and then restart XFCE. But this is not always an option (I'm running some calculations on an xterm which was started from XFCE, so I think I would lose those results if I killed XFCE). In my opinion, a better way would be if resync could run in the background, the volume should stay unmounted and give error alerts if you double click it while resync is in progress. An even better solution would be a progress bar for resync. But in any way, the desktop should not hang.
