Cannot Use Singular Modifier Keys As Application Shortcuts
When setting a keyboard shortcut to a singular modifier key (control, super, etc.), this shortcut is activated trying to activate another shortcut using that key. For example, setting Super
to run xfce4-popup-whiskermenu
and Super+F
to launch the file manager causes a conflict with both commands being run when typing Super+F
. Many users/distributions utilize utilities like xcape
to mitigate this by rebinding keyup events to other keys, however this doesn't support future Wayland use in Xfce, can cause issues in applications (mainly virtualization software) and, is overall quite esoteric.
To make this more intuitive, the modifier key action should only be activated when the key is released without any other command. Other environments like GNOME and Budgie do this automatically, though the key may be hard coded to Super
only.
