Support programmatically starting a timer

Sorry, FEATURE REQUEST, NOT ISSUE. But couldn't see other way :-s I have a remote machine that has a remote power switch. It takes nearly two minutes to boot when I switch on! When I start the machine, I manually run a timer so I know when I should start to fret if my ping monitor doesn't tell me the machine is alive. It would be nice if I could start the timer automatically from the machine start script.

Isn't this feature request a duplicate of #21?

Well it could be, providing #21 was implemented by allowing a timer to be started programmatically
