Feature request for a new, hopefully simple plug-in. Sorry to file under the sample plugin, but Bugzilla wouldn't let me file an enhancement for a package that doesn't yet exist.

The idea is simple. Create a plug-in that monitors /var/run/needs-restart, or whatever equivalent file there is for the installed OS. If the file exists, display an icon informing the user. If it doesn't, either don't display the icon or display a different one.

The use case for this is in setting up automatic upgrades on a desktop system without configuring automatic reboots of said system, letting the user know that it's time for a reboot.
