Clipman (1.6.5) (Icons): no Clipman icons are installed in the Mint-Y Theme, therefore, no Clipman icon in my XFCE panel
- Distro: Linux Mint 20.3 Una
- Desktop: Xfce 4.16.0 (Mint-Y Theme 48x48 icons)
- Gtk 3.24.20
- Kernel: 5.4.0-169-generic x86_64 bits
- Clipman 1.6.5
When I was running Clipman 1.4.4, I had an icon (in the XFCE panel), after the long (painful) process of upgrading to 1.6.5 (see Bottom of #97 for a fuller description of the process), there was no longer a Clipman (XFCE panel) icon after 1.6.5 (eventually) installed.
A bit of detective work (by browsing back through TimeShift 'differential' backups) seems to indicates that there used to be Clipman icons (or at least links to Clipman icons).
But, when I examine the current state of my Mint XFCe Themes (following the 1.6.5 upgrade), the only theme with any kind of icon (for Clipman), is the (default) Mint-X Theme, which has a 'xfce4-clipman-plugin.png' but that file is not a .png, but actually a link, the link target is an actual .png 'evolution-tasks.png'.
By looking WAY back (Mint 18?), at TimeShift backups, that link to the 'evolution-tasks.png' appears to have been used before (possibly as a 'default' icon before Clipman had it's own icon?).
A few TimeShift backups later, and that link ('xfce4-clipman-plugin.png' pointing to the 'evolution-tasks.png') disappears (from the TimeShift backups), possibly replaced with an 'xfce4-clipman-plugin.png' link pointing at an actual 'xfce4-clipman-plugin.png'.
Anyway, that link ('xfce4-clipman-plugin.png' link pointing at 'evolution-tasks.png') has reappeared (in the TimeShift backups created post 1.6.5 upgrade)
Which leads me to think that
a) the 'configure, make, make install' script(s) are broken where it deals with the icons for XFCe Themes (in Mint?)
b) I caused the lack of Clipman icons, during upgrading to 1.6.5
Below is the thrilling conclusion of a 9.5 hour upgrade process (that also includes thinking, researching what (& how) to install the next required library, making Coffee (important thinking time), drinking Coffee (important Coffee drinking time) and maybe the odd snack)
(see also: bottom #97 for a more detailed description of the process)
sudo ./configure
Build Configuration:
* Debug Support: minimum
* X11 Support: yes
* Libxtst Support: yes
* Wayland Support: yes
* QR Code Support: no
sudo make
sudo make install
SUCCESS, I have finally compiled and installed 1.6.5!!!!
reboot
FAILURE: I still have Clipman 1.4.4 (and the panel icon)
So, do I need to uninstall 1.4.4 first?
I uninstall 1.4.4
**** so try (yet) again ****
sudo ./configure
Build Configuration:
* Debug Support: minimum
* X11 Support: yes
* Libxtst Support: yes
* Wayland Support: yes
* QR Code Support: no
sudo make
sudo make install
SUCCESS I have finally compiled (again) and installed (again) 1.6.5!!!!
reboot
SUCCESS It's Clipman 1.6.5 !!!!!
Clipman is there, however, there is no Clipman Panel icon to indicate where 'there' exactly is
COMMENT
When I uninstalled 1.4.4, and then installed 1.6.5 (again), did the 1.6.5 install script, somehow detect evidence of the first 1.6.5 install? Causing it too make ((incorrect) assumptions about the second 1.6.5 install.
uninstalling 1.4.4, may of been the cause of the restoration the link to the 'original default icon' ('xfce4-clipman-plugin.png' is a link pointing at 'evolution-tasks.png')
Did the 1.6.5 script check for the existence of a 'xfce4-clipman-plugin.png' in the default XFCe theme (X-Mint) and therefore assume all the other Themes, had Clipman icons (or links to Clipman icons) already installed?
