just upgraded from 0.1.8 to 0.1.10 of xfce4-screensaver. suspend actions whether by closing a laptop lid or by hitting the suspend button in the xfce4-session logout menu, now take up to a minute before actually suspending. during this minute the screensaver runs.
this occurs whether lock screen is enabled in the screensaver and power settings, or not.

I'm experiencing a similar issue, but only if I disable "Lock screen with system sleep". If that is enabled (and after rebooting!), suspend is instant. With that turned off suspend takes a while.
This AskUbuntu question is describing what seems like the same bug. That person says it takes exactly 30 seconds, which might be a clue.
Well, I got this bug like described in #45 (comment 5836). Logging out and in is enough, no need to reboot.
(I am using Xubuntu 20.04) Besides, this wretched screensaver daemon starts during boot even if I have told it not to in 'Session and Startup' dialog. Anyone knows why?
When I was testing this issue, I went into Settings Editor and removed all settings in the xfce4-screensaver category to reset things. Maybe that will help you.
I can confirm that this issue still persists in Xfce 4.16. Ticking all options that are scattered throughout the system with aim of not locking your system upon sleep (Power Manager, Screensaver, Session ans Startup) causes your OS to take 20-30 seconds to get to sleep. I hypothesize that this should be trivial to reproduce on any laptop (maybe even on desktop/VM?). The only workaround is disabling xfce4-screensaver entirely and removing it from autostart, which obviously sucks.
Distribution - Xubuntu 21.04, 64 bit.
