External monitors "stuck"
Hi,
This may not be XFCE-specific, but any guidance would be appreciated. Apologies in advance for the long post. I am running Manjaro XFCE on a Lenovo Legion y540, usually connected to 2 external monitors via HDMI and USB-C.
When I updated to 4.20 recently, my display profiles were not working correctly (Extended externals, with the panel disabled) If the Mirror option is selected, all monitors work. If extended, the externals appeared to be 'stuck' although the mouse cursor moved. The primary HDMI would be stuck with the wallpaper, and the USB-C is just black. Triggering Guake worked, since I could type in 'sudo reboot'. So it seemed that applications were launching correctly, but the screen was not refreshed. A member of the community suggested deleting my display profiles since there were major changes, but it did not work. I eventually deleted all XFCE/XFWM configs, cache and state files and started with a clean desktop. This worked until the latest update. The problem is back with a clean profile, or a newly created user.
I don't think it's XFCE-specific as I've installed KDE, and the USB-C monitor is black and the primary would sometimes get stuck. I tried Live and fully installed Garuda, CachyOS and EndeavorOS. The same problem occurs on all with XFCE and KDE. Garuda XFCE using the 202412 ISO worked until it updated. I reverted to a BTRFS snapshot on Manjaro and ignored kernel and Nvidia updates. However, after an update yesterday, the problem re-appeared.
So I'm not sure if this is related to upstream Arch / kernel / nvidia / Xorg / desktop managers?
Thanks!
