Only a section of the screen can be used

Issue Description

Only a section of the screen can be used

Hello! I've been experiencing a strange phenomenon for a few days now.

I have 2 screens and use them accordingly, without having had any problems so far. Now I can work with both of them as before, but after a longer break, e.g. 30 minutes, the monitors look normal, but when I try to click on something, it only works in a relatively small area, which is about 2/3 of the monitor (4K).

If I move something within this area, the overlapping area disappears under the edges. It looks as if you are looking through a window and only see a section at a time. Within this window I can type in everything, move it etc. but I can't get to the outside. A comparison might be working with Virtualbox, except that you can't get out with the mouse, once in and you stay in. So I log on to the console with CTRL+F3 and perform a shutdown -fr now. After the restart, it runs until I take a longer break and the game starts again from the beginning.

This only happens on one screen and the rest is unusable. This afternoon I also had the effect that it was first on the right screen and then a little later only on the left screen, where it stayed.

The whole thing is very strange and I would like to work normally again.

Does anyone have an idea how I can get it to work properly again?

This only happens on one screen and the rest is not usable. This afternoon I also had the effect that it was first on the right screen and then a little later only on the left screen, where it stayed.

Does anyone have any idea how I can get it to work properly again?

Expected Behavior

I would like to be able to use the entire workspace without being trapped in a “window”.

Additional Information

Here is what I found about the graphics driver (a Radeon RX 7900 XT is installed):

lspci -k | grep -EA3 'VGA|3D|Display'
03:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc [AMD/ATI] Navi 31 [Radeon RX 7900 XT/7900 XTX/7900 GRE/7900M] (rev cc)

The following has helped: If I type xset s off -dpms & into the console then this error no longer occurs.

I then created the file ~/.xprofile - with the content “xset s off -dpms &”

But it cannot be a permanent solution to switch off something that is needed.
