desktop background settings not set

Issue Description

In XFCE 4.20 FreeBSD UNIX 14 (up-to-date 64-bit n86) I can't set desktop settings: background/gradient. Below I selected different image but set image 'none' and replaced with gradient, none which applied. It happens on Intel graphics ThinkPads. XFCE FreeBSD desktop settings say 'unable to load images from folder "null": operation was cancelled' (separate bug but maybe related).

Steps to Reproduce Issue

  1. Start FreeBSD UNIX.
  2. Install/run XFCE: startx non-root.
  3. Try to set desktop background.

Expected Behavior

Set desktop background.

Additional Information

The /home is also used by Slackware 15+current GNU/Linux (up-to-date 64-bit n86) which when switching to/from I must edit ~/.xinitrc & ~/.xsession startx paths... perhaps, similarly, settings configuration/program tries to find images elsewhere which triggers bug to not set desktop settings without?
