32 bit build of xfdesktop 4.20 does not change wallpaper without manually using "xfdesktop --reload" afterwards

Issue Description

32 bit build of xfdesktop 4.20 does not change wallpaper without manually using "xfdesktop --reload" afterwards. 64 bit builds do not exhibit this behavior.

Steps to Reproduce Issue

Use a 32 bit build of xfdesktop built on debian bookworm (12). Select a wallpaper in the desktop settings chooser or in the right click function in thunar. Wallpaper will not change. xfdesktop --reload or logout/login for wallpaper to become visible. Also affects 32 bit builds of variety and nitrogen just out-right crashes.

Expected Behavior

Wallpaper changes without needing manual referesh with xfdesktop --reload

Additional Information

graphics driver in use doesn't seem to matter, but is reproducible in virtualbox with vmwgfx graphics driver
