icons on the wrong display

Issue Description

My icons are on the left display but should be on the right, as the right is the main screen. It was always on the right since i did an upgrade (debian trixie), now something is very broken. I can also not move all icons to the other monitor, only one by one. Selecting all and moving them looks ok until i release the mouse button, then only one is moved. I have about 30-40 :X

Expected Behavior

The icons should not be on the left non-primary screen but on the right. It would also be nice when i select all and move them to another screen, that all are moved. When i move them only on that one screen, i can select all and move them. But as soon as i "leave the area of that one screen", seems like only 1 is left selected.

Do you have the "Show icons only on primary display" setting enabled? If so, then yes, I believe that setting is broken in 4.20.

Yes, i have this enabled. Just wondering because it worked like a charm. Not sure what exactly got updated in the last time i did an apt dist-upgrade.

Exactly the same issue here.

Another update on this issue: if one disable to show the icons on desktop then remove the file 'icons.screen0.yaml' and enable to show the icons again the expected behaviour happens, i.e., the icons appear in the primary display.

Hi, I have the same problem. Icons moved to another display by themselves and now I cannot drag multiple icons between the displays. When I do so, the following error is written to ~/.xsession-errors and only a single icon is moved to another display. Error is logged for each of the icons that were not moved.

(xfdesktop:3488): Gtk-CRITICAL **: 20:41:20.778: gtk_tree_model_filter_convert_iter_to_child_iter: assertion 'filter_iter->stamp == filter->priv->stamp' failed

Any news on this? Its been over a month and this is quite a major issue. All the office has to drag every icon individually between monitors everyday for 10 minutes.

Perhaps you can hire someone to look into it, considering that you're otherwise depending on volunteers for technology to run your business.

You can also downgrade to 4.18 until it's fixed.

Hi Brian no I dont depend on volunteers to run my business. I actually volunteered to set this up in an office to save middle aged people from having to suffer under win11. The only reason i mentioned the office is to stress how bad and annoying this bug is for new users which harms xfce adoption in the end. Downgrading had not crossed my mind but I will definitely do that. Too bad you couldnt just suggest that instead of being such a snarky smartypants.

I've just removed all icons from the desktop. Thus I am not annoyed by this bug.

If you use open source software developed by volunteers (like Xfce) at your business, then yes, you do.

Too bad you couldnt just suggest that instead of being such a snarky smartypants.

I'm not being a "snarky smartypants"; I'm suggesting that if this is a critical issue for your business, then you should treat it as one and hire someone to help fix it, rather than posting a nagging comment here to try to get an unpaid volunteer to help you.

If you somehow feel that you are entitled to my spare time to fix your issue on a timeline that is most convenient to you, then that is your problem, not mine.

That's strange; there should be no other packages that depend on a particular xfdesktop version. Ah, well I suppose your distro might have a "xfce4" meta-package that requires particular versions of each component. You might be able to uninstall that package without any ill effects, and then downgrade xfdesktop for now. But I'm sure I don't know the details of whatever distro you are running, so that might not work either.
