Browser favicons in minimized-application-icons mode
To start off I'd noticed not many people mention the minimized-application-icons mode, seemingly not as many people rely on it as much as I do? :)
My workflow consists, primarily, of hotkeys to "drop" ie minimize programs down to desktop then when needed "pick up" a selected program into focus. XFCE minimized-application-icons mode is brilliant for this, especially since with arrow keys one can quickly navigate minimized icons and press Enter to "pick up" a program.
I went a step further and am using "tab-less" browser plugins which enforce and treat each tab as a new window so I use the XFCE desktop as a general-purpose desktop.
Two things I noticed, though:
- closing an application will leave a "gap" on the desktop and there is no quick way to "rearrange" the icons back uniform
Maybe that's good because each application will have its own consistent position on the desktop? I'll probably open a new ticket for this later on.
- minimized browser applications use the default browser icon, obviously, so discerning multiple different minimized browser windows depends on discerning the window title
#2 (closed) is what I wanna focus on and perhaps implement myself: would it be possible to somehow use a website's favicon for a minimized browser window in xfce desktop minimized-application-icons mode?
Perhaps as an optional feature which would try and correlate windows' titles (information xfce has access to) and somehow-stored-somewhere windows favicons (information xfce apparently has no access to)?
How could the favicons be accessed, apparently it would depend on various browsers' methods of storing and reusing favicons - which is non of XFCE's concern, right?
Maybe I could write a plugin for this?
