This happens in an unpredictable way. ~~Also, once you boot and you have the error it will always show in this session, until you reboot and wait to be lucky or not...~~
What is consistent is that the error only occurs when accessing files directly from the desktop (accessing it from the desktop folder using thunar works nice) and if you open with double click or enter -- right clicking and selecting open with 'mousepad' never triggers the error. Also, it doesn't matter which file extension / application associated. Finally, even when we have the error message, the file opens anyway.
I understand that this issue might have been fixed in 4.18.x, but any help on where I can find the code responsible for this error or a related ticket would be very helpful.

I have obtained identical behaviour in Oracle Linux 8.8 (Thunar 4.16) and in Xubuntu 23.04 (Thunar 4.18).
On the OL8 PC, I tried the evdev xorg driver and saw no difference from the libinput xorg driver.
I've attached files with OL8 and Xubuntu versions and also the corresponding Xorg.n.log files. These files are for the libinput xorg driver only.

In https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/thunar/-/issues/741#note_44106 @lastonestanding notes this issue may fall in xfdesktop or in Thunar. Hopefully, we can sort that out.
Note that when using these same OS configurations but an older touchscreen with a different controller, the double-click desktop icon launcher works, but it requires a very fast double click. In this case, the touch screen _kernel_ module loaded is different from the two scenarios above, but both computers are still using the libinput xorg module. I have not provided log files for these scenarios.https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfdesktop/-/issues/250[NVIDIA/Linux] Display Settings are shown each time the monitor returns from ...2023-08-24T15:42:07ZArtem S. I'm a happy user of XFCE, thanks for making XFCE and sharing it as Open Source!
Starting with xfdesktop 4.19.1 (i.e. 4.19.0 worked fine, just re-confirmed), context menu command "Arrange Desktop icons" does not use the correct screen size. Cases I have observed are (a) only using ~70% of the full screen height and (b) using so much height that farthest down icons' labels are hidden behind the (xfce4-panel) panel bar.
It it matters, my setup is two monitors — one smaller built into the laptop, one bigger and external — where whenever the smaller laptop one is still active after log-in I would turn that off using [Arandr](https://christian.amsuess.com/tools/arandr/), and then screen resolution changes.
Any chance this could be fixed?
Thanks and best, Sebastian

I'm a happy user of XFCE, thanks for making XFCE and sharing it as Open Source!
I installed xfdesktop 4.19.1 two days ago and found my desktop with no icons today after reboot. What helped is to go to the settings and switch "Icon Type" to "None" and back to "File/launcher icons". So there is apparently some problem in the upgrade path and/or a mismatch of settings dialog and reality. Any chance this could be fixed for 4.19.2?
Thanks and best, Sebastian

I tested this on multiple machines and the issue is not present with xfdesktop-4.18.1. However, it is possible to change the background via xfconf-query and the difference here is that xfdesktop-settings changes value of e.g. '/backdrop/screen0/**monitor0**/workspace0/last-image' which is not effective whereas modifying '/backdrop/screen0/**monitorDisplayPort-0**/workspace0/last-image' works. But if I choose for example 144hz it works fine.

The workaround I've found is to change the scaling at the same time as I change to 165hz and then change the scaling back. Then I get back to 1x scaling and 165hz without any issues

I guess I'm on the right xfce channel/project here. I've noticed that my desktop notifications **don't disappear** anymore.
And it **happens only when I unmount** any device via Thunar. Whether it's an external HDD, a Flash USB drive, or a smartphone. Though I don't see any error in dmesg.
I think it's useless to attach a screenshot since it's just a notification, but here it is anyway: http://0x0.st/Hz1J.png
But it disappears as it should **in any other case**: like a torrent after being downloaded or from the Notification appearance settings app when I click 'Show Preview' etc.
What I've tried: cleaning the ~/.cache, starting the Notifications settings and changing every option there. It's being set to disappear after 5 seconds. Nothing helps.
Seems like it started to happen after some recent update. I'm on Arch Linux, so it's pretty always fresh.
I understand that it could be some other system issue but I've seen some recent updates like thunar and xfce4-notifyd, so I guess it can be somehow connected. Anyone experiencing this too?
