Cannot change mouse pointer speed

The only mouse pointer speed setting I could find in the graphical settings program is a mouse acceleration slider. My problem is not the acceleration but the base speed of the mouse pointer, which is too high. This should be changeable in the settings. Even with an acceleration of 0 the speed is too high.
