[Feature request] an option in the display settings to disable automatic display layout changes
The automatic detection and display layout configuration of new screens is very useful for e.g. laptops, for people who go from home to the office and plug in a different external screen, then go to the meeting room and plug in e.g. a projector, I use this on my laptop and it works well.
However, on my fixed main home PC, I have and have always had 3 screens connected, so I don't need this feature at all, but over the years it has caused nothing but headaches with most of the screens I had. Cheap ones as well as expensive ones. Some are not getting detected anymore when they go in power savings mode, so when I come back from a break, the layout is messed up. I had hoped that with recently added options "Configure new displays when connected" and "Automatically enable profiles when new display is connected" and the option to disable them, it would be better, but not so. Recently I also saw people complain about screens getting into "mirrored" mode when coming back from sleep. I get this too, another headache on top of that.
So over the years, I have made my own patch, which I always apply after an update of xfsettingsd, hoping that one day someone else would fix this for good.
So how would you guys feel about an option to disable this logic ? For me it got rid of the the automatic layout changes and also the mirror state issue. I can submit my patch and make a pull request.
