XFCE and optimus manager display management
The issue
As per the issue reported on the xfce forum, I recently switched to using the optimus manager and that's when I noticed an issue with the display when an external monitor is connected in hybrid mode.
When I configure the display settings using this configuration:
This is what my desktop looks like in hybrid mode:
As you can see, the external monitor thinks it is bigger than it actually is, and the windows extend all the way into the main screen.
As opposed to what it is supposed to look like, but this time when running with just the nvidia graphics card:

The issue we seemed to notice is that in hybrid mode, xfce seems to be enabling panning on the external display:
