Fonts suddenly change size when there are changes in font directories

Fonts become bigger when creating a new directory or a new file (the file can be anything, even empty) in font directories (/usr/share/fonts, ~/.local/share/fonts). It can be seen in the xfce4-terminal, in the title bar of other programs (using xfwm), in Thunar, ...

The big fonts becomes normal again when exiting and starting a new session. But it will happen again if there are changes in that directory (and sub-directories).
