System suspends randomly & Constant brightness dimming (except Xubuntu)

Hi,

I'm experiencing issues with Xfce4 (ArchLinux and Debian) when forcing "tsc" clocksource on boot (due to a faulty BIOS implementation on my Thinkpad). The issues are:

  • Brightness/backlight constantly dims by itself.
  • System randomly suspends (s2idle [deep]), and upon resuming, it immediately suspends again, creating a loop. Switching quickly to a TTY is the only way to regain control.

To avoid these issues it works best to:

  • keep Presentation Mode activated permanently
  • remove any tsc parameter on boot, so the system uses hpet clocksource

Some key findings:

  • Both issues occur with Xfce on Debian and ArchLinux, but not with Xubuntu 24.04, regardless of the kernel version.
  • Other DEs (Plasma/debian, Gnome/fedora, Cinnamon/mint) perform correctly and as expected with tsc enabled.

I've included the output of "xfconf-query -c xfce4-power-manager -lv" and "xfce4-power-manager --dump" from both Xubuntu 24.04.1 and Debian 12.6, which have similar configurations in the xfce4-power-manager-settings GUI.
