Feature request - changing CPU governor

Many DEs have these options in their power settings.

They offer different governor options, like "Performance" or "power saving".

Is it possible for the power manager to do this? I imagine it would require some polkit rule, because only root can write to /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq/scaling_governor.
