Independent window grouping across workspaces

It seems that grouped windows are somehow linked across different workspaces in a weird way:

I cannot directly minimize a single window App1-w1 on workspace1 anymore after I opened another window App1-w2 on workspace2. Instead, the usual window group popup (that lets you select the window out of the group) appears with just one item App1-w1 in the list. Clicking on this one does the job, though.

Is this intended behavior and, if so, would it be possible to treat window groups independently on different workspaces?

Or maybe there already is some option for it that I did not discover yet?
