long-time observation here. Some apps such as the [Nextcloud desktop client](https://github.com/nextcloud/desktop) will always show the black/white symbolic icon in panel's Status Tray.
`Request symbolic icons` is disabled in the plugin settings. Likewise, `Use monochrome icons` is disabled in Nextcloud.
On other DEs I have seen colored icons, or at least a green checkmark on the white cloud icon. This doesn't seem to show in Xfce panel.

This is confusing for me and my expected behavior is that sticky windows show on all workspaces in the pager matching the behavior of the window. I have proven this out working with a change to `libwnck`, [open MR here](https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/libwnck/-/merge_requests/53). The maintainers there wanted to confirm XFCE is good with this change so I'm opening this issue.
My proposal for change is this:
1. Get consensus this is a feature we want so the `libwnck` changes can get merged
1. Update the `libwnck` MR to put the new functionality behind a flag that is off by default to preserve current functionality.
2. Update the xfce4-panel pager plugin in to support this. There are two options that I'd like to discuss here:
1. Enable the new feature with no user interaction and make it the default.
2. Add a toggle to turn this feature on in the pager preferences UI and default it to off to preserve current functionality.
I'm also looking for guidance on how to handle the API change to `libwnck` within XFCE. Do we set minimum versions somewhere for libs in the project? Obviously this wouldn't work if dynamically linked against an older version of `libwnck` that doesn't have this API, and I'm not sure how this is typically handled in open source Linux packages like this.https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-panel/-/issues/813Feature request pls, autohide on sys notificacion icon2024-02-02T00:06:59ZCoreTrackerFeature request pls, autohide on sys notificacion iconHello xfce team, i have a feature request in system icon i explain the situation is easy i think.

It does not seem to matter if it comes from a built-in feature (displaying seconds on the clock) or a plugin (system monitor). Removing the system monitor plugin from the panel and disabling the seconds on the clock stopped the stuttering. Suspending the processes of the plugins with 'kill -19' also worked, but only on the plugins as the clock doesn't have its own process and I don't want to suspend the whole panel.
This is how it looks like: I let the unigine-superposition benchmark run in game mode (standing still for most constant frame times) and traced the frame times with mangohud. Displaying seconds on the clock has already been disabled but the frametime spikes produced by the clock looked just the same as these:

> It was indeed dropped, and it's not coming back. The way forward is to integrate with the "startup notification" and "notifications" in general, in a way that can be related back to a window. E.g. a chat client that got a message would send a notification, and that would be tied to a window wanting to become active, so that the notification can be interacted with and directly focus the correct window.

Would it be possible to implement this in xfce4-panel, so that we'd get some kind of urgency-like highlight for window when it sends a notification to xfce4-notifyd? I suppose the panel would then remove this highlight when the window is activated (or notification explicitly discarded?).
That said, reading from that thread, I have no clue if anyone actually figured out how to bind notifications to a specific window.https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-panel/-/issues/803option to disable a panel2023-11-26T12:23:19Zroger21option to disable a panelwhen we work with several displays and/or several setup it can be useful to have a specific panel for such display and so on

I'm using the following custom format on the xfce4-panel clock plugin: `%H:%M:%S.%f`.
The interesting format-code for this bug-report is the `%f` part, which outputs the number of microseconds within the current second.
The behavior I had expected upon adding the `%f` format-code was sub second updates to the clock, similar to how adding the `%S` format-code results in sub minute updates to the clock.
What is observed however is that adding the `%f` format-code has no impact on the update interval of the clock.
The issue can be easily reproduced using the format string: `%M %f`, upon which updates are only generated every minute, or by using the format string: `%S %f`, upon which updates are only generated every second.
If I jiggle my mouse over the clock I get sub second updates, I assume from UI events.

[This seems to be the code relevant for deciding the update interval](https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-panel/-/blob/master/plugins/clock/clock-time.c#L245-272): Which checks for a variety of format-codes, including `%S` and if found configures the update interval to be by the second, rather than by the minute. The `%f` modifier gets no special treatment in the function whatsoever.
[This seems to be the code relevant for configuring when the next update should occur](https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-panel/-/blob/master/plugins/clock/clock-time.c#L408-417): It seems clear here that the update interval is thought of a binary between updates by the second and by the minute.https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-panel/-/issues/795Clock plugin: Please add a checkbox in preferences to use system font2023-10-03T12:13:57ZfunkymasterClock plugin: Please add a checkbox in preferences to use system fontIf the system font is changed, the clock font in the panel plugin must be changed manually each time. To reproduce:
* choose a theme with dark panels
* move the panel to the left side of the screen
* enable auto-hide of the panel (I use always, doesn't matter)
- note that `reserve space at the screen border` becomes greyed-out
* in xfce4-terminal, run `echo -e "\np\n"`, then maximize the terminal.
Watch the leftmost pixels of the terminal disappear.
xterm does the same, so it isn't the terminals fault.
The line representing the hidden panel (I'll call it panel hint) overlaps all windows but doesn't reserve a "keep out zone" for the windows, making the leftmost pixels of each terminal character other program disappear.
In full-screen, the panel hint is hidden
I can think of two good solutions to this issue:
* don't grey out the `reserve space at the screen border` option and make it reserve space only for the panel hint, not the full-size panel when the panel is actively hiding (set to always OR intelligent + wants to hide), so the windows don't move around when we access the panel.
* give us an option to disable the panel hint, as:
- you can't see it on dark themes
- it's static
- it's solid color
- we know where we put our panels
- it's easy to find with the mouse
so why waste the pixels?
I'm running manjaro-xfce with the default Matcha-sea and it has dark panels, which is why it took me over an hour to find out that it's the panel, not the terminal or xfwm.
I even created a 1080p full-screen test image to test whether it's my thinkpads display that's missing pixels at the edges:

However, I'm finding that I would really appreciate the panels being (optionally?) collision-aware, so that they won't overlap one another when a panel's contents expand it's width.
So, for instance, I wanted to split out my bottom panel to three parts:
1) Docked Left, Whisker Menu and some App Launchers
2) Docked Center, Window List
3) Docked Right, System monitors, clock, mailwatch, switch to desktop
What I found when I split my normal bottom panel into three is that the Window List panel would expand when I was using my computer more heavily and overlap both the Left and Right panels, whereas I expected it would grow to fill the empty space and then simply stop expanding.https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-panel/-/issues/766Panel foreground color customization2023-07-19T14:27:07ZnewhoaPanel foreground color customizationThe ability to change the background color of the panel is great. Currently every single panel plugin needs to configure fonts and bar settings. Most plugins don't even have an option to set bar sizes and spacing. This leads to different look-like of different plugins.
https://gitlab.xfce.org/panel-plugins/xfce4-sensors-plugin/-/issues/44#note_74595
It would be nice to have a global panel option for font and bar sizes + bar spacing. This generic setting could be inherited by plugins or overwritten.
The option to show labels or not should be a plugin option.
Please think about and discuss this idea to make it easier for plugin developers and users, to implement and configure that in every single plugin.
