I'd suggest adding a grace period for the second event.

After closing the settings dialog there is a red border around most/many plugins. I presume this comes from themes setting a border or something like that.
Maybe the CSS overrides can be made more robust or we may need to store/restore the stylecontext differently.

After a new Debian installation, I would like to restore the bar marked on the screenshot with my customised panels. Important! It is about restoring configuration files that were previously backed up from the Debian with the same version, for example 11.4?
Is it possible to:
1) before the reinstallation, back up corresponding configuration files of the xfce4-panel package from the previous installation, e.g. simply backup the files with the adherence to the folder structure.
2) after the new Debian installation with the same version, replace the configuration files created during the installation previously saved folders?
Which files or folders must be backed up and copied after the new installation?
Examples:
```
/home/neptun/Documents
/home/neptun/Templates
/home/neptun/.local/share/applications
/home/neptun/.local/share/desktop-directories
/home/neptun/.confih/xfce4/panel
/home/neptun/.confih/xfce4/xfconf
In proper British (and even all international & American) English the case is only proper nouns are capitalized, which include people, and geographic locations that have names, and a few other things (titles of texts, books, magazines, articles, academic papers, and some new inventions that become acronyms or aren't copied yet, such as are by one organization/research/company group, and usually any formal organizations themselves). There are almost no other exceptions of which one is words which can be academic subjects only within academic context but not non-academic context.
No literate person would seriosuly write in a paper/article/book 'I went to My Garage to get My Hammer and My Saw and My Drill and Some Wood and Some Nails and used My Workbench to Make My Project' because it's simply among worst possible grammar... nevertheless, this style was wrongly started by early Apple & Windows and then large number of people ignorantly copied.
So of course most my user directories/folders--as all currently non-academic--are lowercase, and I'd like all my application main menu entries of categories & miscellanous/utilities & settings be proper lowercase also (I don't use Thunar but same would be true there and for all user directores/folders unless in academic usage). Every submenu contains programs including some unique with their own formal literary/scientific work names, but also many of UNIX origin or imitation that if you read command-line are lowercase, because command-line users don't want too many \<SHIFT\> presses and in many cases there were several historical versions of a program so they're now generic/topic/subject/category nouns--no longer proper nouns... all such ones users should be able to have lowercase (even things like 'run program', 'terminal emulator', 'file manager', 'mail reader', 'web browser', 'log out' are generic tool categories incorrect to capitalize (exactly same as discussing tools one paragraph above) except specific cases such as 'XFCE Terminal Emulator'... if 'About XFCE' was a document capitalization would be correct but doesn't open to a document though contains an 'About' document so I'd have to ask literary MA-/MSc or higher experts I know... I know what I'm talking about because was able to tutor for USA college/university AA/ASc/minor including what's in beginning BA/BSc English level though haven't memorized as much as people who complete those or lived longer in Britain but would've been able to tell you all the above after my first school year/class/grade in Greater London Built-up Area, England, UK).
In such cases of generic categories & programs (other than unique programs names such as Xfce Terminal (I'd rather see full uppercase XFCE), Thunar, and if you have a unique text-editor/word-processor?) lowercase should be default because has been teaching Millennials and younger atrocious grammar.https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-panel/-/issues/620reusing/returning classic/forked superior CDE aspects (inspired by Windows 3)?2022-08-02T15:30:05ZDavid Chmelikdchmelik@gmail.comreusing/returning classic/forked superior CDE aspects (inspired by Windows 3)?I read XFCE forked CDE which I know imitated Windows3 (Win3) which I preferred aspects. Win3 had program manager/groups which was still usable in Win95/98 (and WinME?). I always liked program manager/groups but always abhorred (to this day) Win95 (to Win10) inferior start menu which became (Ns)CDE & XFCE applications menu.
Win3 program groups show _any or all_ groups of only-related programs _wth large/recognizable icons_ and could start _as many you want in one go from still-open groups and be reminded_ what else one might want/need to start (or optionally minimize). Start & applications menus were _regression_ to _one-at-a-time_ text & _less-reocgnizable small icons_: _rather than one go you reopen menu over & over, maybe 10 or 20+ times_ (typically 20 to 30+ for me and I know some who use more) _let alone mouse slips on very position-sensitive menu that opens/causes many mistakes and can take many more seconds to reopen than a still-program group_, and when you start a few/couple and are doing another but then one takes 'current focus' status and closes to draw over start/application menu (or even doesn't draw over at all but goes to other side but still closes menu(!)) and in contrast start/application menus _can't remain open for reminder while using other programs_.
I'd like back whatever Win3-style XFCE program groups--whatever you call them--forked from CDE (or do they still exist hidden? Then unhide them) and might even remove application menu afterwards, because that Win95 aspect always was--and still is--worst (and has only gotten worse as in its newer-style imitation reported elsewhere).
Apparently some KDE (and GNOME/Ubuntu/etc.?) people realized Win3 had a good idea and Win3 start menu was a regression, but maybe mostly weren't win3 users, because they made almost-similar fullscreen menu/launcher--also inferior to Win3: can't view all program groups same time as using other programs.
No other UI was as good except classic Apple with sytem menu bar that could have each application menu bar attached/underneath (as in KDE3, but of course both lacked superior Win3-style program groups, and Windows always lacked superior Apple-style top bars).
I was most productive in (Apple &) Win3: I much more quickly saw what I had, and started all I wanted from all groups in one go, but still saw what else I may use later, or otherwise minimized, and could come back and do same repeatedly.
KDE-style launchers were almost as good until I filled half taskbar with 20 or 30+ most-used programs but of course unable to immediately see related utilities... at least KDE launchers disappear and become their running taskbar entry... even such disappearing launchers can never replace/equal Win3 & (Ns)CDE-style program groups. It's good XFCE has taskbar launchers but they'd only work for me with double-level taskbar (then almost all programs are at top left, hard to use) or if in future they can disappear to become running taskbar entry.https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-panel/-/issues/619different types of rows (taskbar, systemtray)?2022-08-02T15:53:59ZDavid Chmelikdchmelik@gmail.comdifferent types of rows (taskbar, systemtray)?For days/weeks/months I switched from KDE to XFCE until found myself staying up later (had to switch back for night colour control in KDE then was slow/halting again) but switched back to XFCE and am working on configuring/bugreporting r...For days/weeks/months I switched from KDE to XFCE until found myself staying up later (had to switch back for night colour control in KDE then was slow/halting again) but switched back to XFCE and am working on configuring/bugreporting redshift-gtk (coming along nicely) but miss several less important KDE features such as their panel has separate numbers of taskbar & systemtray rows.
I don't know how common 4K, 5K, 8K (rather than older/slower hardware with smaller monitors) is XFCE but I still use 4K with double-height XFCE panel but then two taskbar rows put almost all non-minimized program taskbar entries at top left (panel there classic Apple-style) less-reachable/-readable but having only one row extends dozens systemtray icons too far left... so taskbar & systemtray should be able to have separate numbers of rows... and I noticed a few programs minimize to entire vertical space middle of two rows in systemtray while others minimize to a row (all should be forced to).
I noticed even with one row, 11 taskbar items only extend maybe 2/3 across so the bigger issue is I need to increase font size from 10 to 14 (changing in XFCE settings didn't immediately apply to taskbar but I'll restart) nevertheless separate numbers of taskbar & system tray rows is a wishlist/enhancement issue.https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-panel/-/issues/618full cascading?2022-08-02T15:13:36ZDavid Chmelikdchmelik@gmail.comfull cascading?Most modern graphical user interfaces (GUIs) imitated Windows 3 (win3) then 95/98/ME (and/or classic-to-current Apple) but dropped most win3, some win95 style: unfortunate because some was faster (more productive). I know XFCE forked CDE which had imitated win3 (wish I could have program manager/groups back) but more recently win95 with some worse (XP/Vista/7/8/10?) updates: replaced full (onscreen) cascading with partial (offscreen/scroll) cascading which can take users much more time. If a main GUI (start/applications) menu box had submenu longer than screen, it 'cascaded' a new column still onscreen (you maybe can find such win95 or (unsure) win98 screenshots, but I'll find/post if you can't); what used to take a couple seconds full cascading now can take several to 10+ seconds with inferior partial cascading (on GUIs more popular but slower than XFCE I've even given up & exited when was taking minutes to scroll... similarly some I know use XFCE3 or older or speed and/or preferred style).
I (and users whose PCs I administer) would like full cascading back because we have submenus twice 4K (and maybe four times their 1200p) screen height and will of course be installing much more in future... partial cascading just doesn't cut it (is an absolutely inferior total time-wasting useless graphic design animation effect trend/fad... onet thing I hated about KDE was excess effects/animations which one could disable all at once but now has to disable dozens one-by-one... absolutely no effect/animation should be forced including main GUI/applications menu scrolling, which I seem to recall comes from later 'cholesterol-style' Windows).https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-panel/-/issues/617Disappearing panel when removing an app with right click of mouse2022-08-01T09:38:00ZclatterfordslimDisappearing panel when removing an app with right click of mouseWhen removing app from panel with right click of mouse panel disappears, in Xfce4 4.16.3
But I set up a laptop for a library here and I though that the default menu is simpler (and whisker menu doesn't look nice out of the bottom left corner and I want a top panel).
This issue is that at the first time the menu button is clicked (in a session, and I don't save sessions) it just selects the button and it needs another click to activate.
It looks to me that either the xfce team should fix the default menu panel plugin (this issue plus the not working keyboard shortcut) or else choose whisker menu as the default. For the next release.
1. It's impossible to specify the font
2. With the Datetime plugin it was possible to specify distinct fonts for the time and for the date. I've no idea how to implement it in the current UI but it's sorely needed.
E.g. I'm not interested in seeing the date as clearly as I need to see the time:
