This feature doesn't have to be enabled by default but I was hoping it could be given as an option to users.
Reason why I am reluctant to move to KDE is cause I want a lightweight DE and KDE is not one of them.https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-panel/-/issues/117give visual feedback when DnD'ing window buttons2023-05-29T10:11:45ZBugzilla Migrationgive visual feedback when DnD'ing window buttons## Submitted by Liv

## Description
From memory, in 4.8 it was possible to DnD window buttons and there was a visual indicator showing the user the place were the Dragged-and-dropped button would end up. In 4.10 DnD was initially dropped, then re-introduced. But the visual indicator got lost along the way.
A DnD visual indication would be useful for those who use `None, allow Drag-and-Drop` sorting order for the window buttons. The indicator could be not unlike what happens when you `right-click on panel item > Move` and then hover the mouse over other panel items...

## Description
The action buttons plugin currently simply checks for the presence of the "gdmflexiserver" tool in $PATH for offering the "Switch user" item. This is rather unreliable since GDM or LightDM (which provide this tool) might be installed but not actually running (see e.g.https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=780707 ). There should be an additional check for the running display manager which could be implemented through DBus and/or environment variables.

Directories are shown upon mouse hovering and cannot be opened in file explorer, except if the additional _Open Folder_ menu entry is enabled. This is a feature request to utilize more mouse button actions in Directory Menu, for instance:
1. Double (left) click on a (sub)directory to open it in a file explorer (working regardless of whether _Open Folder_ entry is enabled).
2. Middle click on a (sub)directory to open it in a terminal emulator (working regardless of whether _Open in Terminal_ entry is enabled).
3. Right click on a file or a (sub)directory to show the right-click menu (as on the desktop).
This feature request also supersedes and extends the 12-year old #11 - see number 1 in the list above.
Additionally, number 1 and 2 could be implemented in the plugin icon as well to act on the top-level directory.
The middle-click on an ordinary file action is not listed above since I couldn't find a good use for it, just mentioning it as a food for thought.https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-panel/-/issues/737right click menu for xfce application menu2023-04-22T18:40:32Zfadi123goright click menu for xfce application menuI wish there was a right click menu for xfce application menu items similar to the ones in whisker menu. they should feature entries such as add to desktop , add to panel and edit appliction..![right_click](/uploads/787ece34a430200b1ebb4...I wish there was a right click menu for xfce application menu items similar to the ones in whisker menu. they should feature entries such as add to desktop , add to panel and edit appliction..![right_click](/uploads/787ece34a430200b1ebb47066bc35b18/right_click.png)

I'm a happy user of XFCE, thanks for making XFCE and sharing it as Open Source!
When I log into X about every second time, xfce4-panel shows a pile of overlapping pop-ups saying "Plugin [..] unexpectedly left the panel" — screenshot below — that force me to either
- click "Execute" multiple times or
- do "pkill -9 xfce4-panel && xfce4-panel &" on a terminal.
If that could be solved, that would be fantastic.
For potential causes I can think of:
- use of some de-facto dependency before its available,
- use of a non-monotonic clock and NTP/clock updates hitting at the same time, and/or
- some other race condition.
Thanks and best
Sebastian

Would it be possible to have a configuration option (xfconf/GUI setting) to have the builtin `Launcher` plugin behave like a checked/toggle button with respect to the command it spawns? In particular, when this mode is active, when the button is clicked the command is spawned and so long as the spawn was successful and the child process remains alive the button transitions to the toggled/checked state. When the child process dies the button transitions back to its untoggled/unchecked state.
Adding this behavior to the launcher plugin (while I'm suggesting it as an optional setting, it could be made the default) brings it more inline with the behavior of other xfce4-panel plugins (both internal and external). Namely, the ability to provide visual feedback to the user concerning the spawned command (a CSS state/style could even set if the spawn failed, allowing the button to be flashed red or some such, however, this transition/action should be implemented in the users CSS theme).
Implementation wise, the groundwork looks to already be in place. Should be a matter of creating a `CheckedButton/ToggleButton` and using `xfce_spawn_on_screen_with_child_watch`.

label-poc.patch
This is a follow up of [Bug 14725](https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14725).
Some apps, such as SafeEyes[1], use AppIndicator and set a label of their indicator.
This label is not handled by statusnotifier-plugin.
The attached path is just a proof-of-concept, that replaces the title in tooltip by label.
A sample application is provided in [Bug 14725](https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14725).

I notice that for several versions of xfce4-panel, the workspace switcher would switch to the workspace above when scrolling up, and to the workspace below when scrolling down. Since I have horizontal scrolling on my mouse, I appreciated this change as it gave me mouse access to four adjacent workspaces instead of two.
The behavior before this was simply to switch to the previous workspace number. So scrolling vertically in workspace 2 would take you to workspace 1 (up) or 3 (down). This behavior has recently resumed in 4.18.2.
It would be cool if this behavior were configurable. Alternatively, it would be cool if I could select the position of each workspace arbitrarily, but this sounds like a far more involved feature that offers little value over simply being able to map mouse scroll events to workspace switch actions, or even more simply, selecting the behavior of vertical scrolling between numerical and vertical selection.
Thanks for your consideration! (And for your ongoing efforts in maintaining this software.)
I am happy to assign a bounty to this issue, if there is a mechanism or channel for that.https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-panel/-/issues/513Maximum panel row size too small for vertical panels2023-03-29T03:13:49ZKlaus KuscheMaximum panel row size too small for vertical panelsI have a 4k display. Hence, I've selected a relatively large base font (14 pt), and I've set the dpi settings to 160 dpi. And for some information which should be easily and quickly readable, I have to use much larger fonts (e.g. the time font in the datetime panel app is 28 pt).
However, the maximum row size for panels is limited to 128 pixel. This should suffice for horizontal panels, but it is definitely way too small for vertical panels:
- Window buttons would need several hundred pixels (400-500?) in width at that font and dpi size
- The panel is way too narrow for the datetime app, both for the time with seconds and for the date, and even for the time without seconds
- The icons in the workspace switcher are unrecognizably small
- For all the performance meters, the label (e.g. the network interface or disk name) does not fit.
- The CPU graph would also benefit from more width.
Please increase the limit e.g. to 512 pixel!https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-panel/-/issues/226Number of rows limit (6) is not enough2023-03-23T15:38:54ZBugzilla MigrationNumber of rows limit (6) is not enough## Submitted by sco..@..il.com

## Description
I dont see why the panel need to be restricted to a maximum of 6 rows in panel preferences.
If in horizontal mode i have 7 buttons from a plugin in line but then switch the panel to deskbar mode (vertical panel, horizontal plugin) the panel can not show the last button from the plugin because the panel is only allowed 6 rows so the last button is clipped.
And it seems the panel does not allow the overflowing button to wrap to the next line.
So i guess what i want is to change the panel size like i would change the size of a window.
Not indirectly by changing the number of rows or the row size inside the panel but just the panel size.
Perhaps it would be better to be able to select the width/height of the panel in % both ways.
It seems like currently you can select the length in % and the "width" indirectly by the row height.

## Description
Launchers allow you to place an icon on the panel which can optionally have a drop down menu. Launchers can be created by dragging an icon from the application menu to an empty space on the panel.
It appears that there is code in the launcher plugin which supports dragging to the drop down menus by hovering over the down arrow and then dropping the icon in the menu. However this does not work. As soon as I drag an icon over the down arrow the drag ends.
This code uses deprecated Gtk+ functions. I have ported it to use the replacements, but it still doesn't seem to work.

I can not define the order of some icons in the status tray, as I do not see them in the list of known icons in the properties of the Status Tray plugin. Basically I am experiencing what was already reported on the forum at https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=15411 but for me it is on a fully updated Arch installation, so the version is 4.18 and not 4.16 as mentioned in that report. This has started to happen after a system update, which I hadn’t done since early October 2022, meaning that I was on 4.16 before that update and didn’t have that issue there (while the forum user does). Another difference to the forum report is that I am experiencing this with icons for programs that are not started directly on login (so there is no point in starting the panel with a delay as suggested on the forum, but I still tried it to be sure). But the icons affected are those mentioned in that thread: Electron clients such as Signal and Element.
Any advice or questions? I I will not be using this installation much before Monday late evening CET though.

I see with Xfce 4.16, it looks like status tray/systray known items have been split up into multiple types. In theory this is a good idea. However, in practice, it actually reduces customizability because it means that you cannot fully adjust the order of the items in the tray.
For example, look at this picture:
![](https://i.imgur.com/eMJkz5J.png)
You can see that anydesk comes before any of the other icons.
However, if I want to put anydesk to be near the end of the icons like I had it in Xfce 4.14, this is no longer possible:
![](https://i.imgur.com/g6lp7ld.png)
I suggest some sort of option to be able to toggle the old behaviour, or simply going back to having merged Known Items so that the order can be adjusted completely.
Thanks.
