## Description
A true binary clock shouldn't based on hours (mod 12), but on bits (mod
2).
Take for example the following clock:
1010010000100000
In order to make sense of it we would have to find out if it's
binary-coded decimal (BCD), or sexagesimal. And then if it's packed or
not, and where the divisions are.
But we could say this number is a binary... A true binary.
To see if this is the highest part (past 12) or the lowest part (before
12), we just look at the most significant digit '1'. So it's past noon.
Then of those later 12 hours are we in earlier or later? We look at the
second digit '0', so it's between 12-18; We still have a quarter of the
day left. We continue like that until the last digit, which is similar
to a second, but not quite.
This is a 16-bit binary clock; that is: a clock whose value is a real
binary, on which you can do binary operations. By dividing the day into
2 ^ 16 equal parts it's easy to represent the most and least significant
parts of a day.
000: day started
100: past noon
010: early morning (6am)
110: afternoon (6pm)
001: 3am
011: 9am
101: 3pm
111: 9pm
We can't call this the true true binary clock, but it pretty much is.
In order to represent minutes (not seconds) we need the first 10 most
significant bits.

## Description
Overview:
At first I was sure only the last workspace was wider than the others. Meaning that the all workspaces were the same width except the last one. Usually I have everything between 10 and 20 workspaces and I could clearly see that the last workspace was always a few pixels wider than some (all?) of the others.
But when I tried to dig deeper into this it seems the width might be changing with the number of workspaces. I configured only one workspace and it was 96 pixels I think. When I had two workspaces both were 97 pixels. When I had 3 workspaces the first two were 96 pixels and the last one was 98 or something..? At some point I had around 10 workspaces and measured the last workspaces to be like 4 pixels wider than the first. The reason I am so vague is because I used screenshots and GIMP to measure and it was just a pain in the end.
Steps to Reproduce:
1) Configure 3 or more workspaces
2) Measure each workspace
Actual Results:
Last workspace is wider than the first
Expected Results:
All workspaces should have equal width

Current behavior:
The menu does not close when clicking directly on the label or icon with version 1.8.0.
Expected behavior:
The places plugin should behave as before in version 1.7.0 and like the application menu panel (4.12.2).
Clicking on the label or icon when the menu is open should hide it again.
This is a regression between 1.7.0 and 1.8.0, maybe due to the GTK3 port?

## Description
Hello,
I'm using multiple monitors (3) on several locations and have panels configures in the following way:
Panel 0 is the "main" panel with menu, window and action buttons, tray icons. Ouput is set to "Primary", which is always eDP-1 LCD display on ThinkPad T480s.
Panels 1-3 have Ouput assigned to different outputs (DP-1, HDMI-1, DP-2). These panels only have Window Buttons configured, showing only applications from these monitors and these outputs are never set as Primary. Each panel should only be visible on certain output.
However when I undock laptop or disable additional outputs with xrandr. I see random Panel 1-3 overlayed on top of Panel 0 on Primary eDP-1 output, hiding its content. If I force panel redraw (switch mode from horizontal to vertical and back to horizontal), panel then hides itself either behind Panel 0 (or out of eDP-1). This is quite annoying as I lose menus and action buttons on my primary monitor.
Tested with xfce4-panel 4.13.5 and with latest xfce4-panel-git xfce+4.14pre1+36+g306856ca-1 on Arch Linux.

## Description
In XFCE, the workspace switching keys are ctrl-F`<whatever>`. In the music composition application milkytracker, ctrl-F`<whatever>` are linked to editing operations.
I like my desktop/workspace switching keys as the ctrl-Fkeys, as they are. I don't care about my editing keys in milkytracker. The problem is that the ctrl-F`<n>` keypresses are sent to milkytracker when I switch to the desktop that milkytracker is on.
For example, given that milkytracker is on workspace 3 and I am on workspace 2, when I switch to workspace 3, the switch occurs and then milkytracker also receives the keypress instead of it being trapped (which is what happens if I am already on workspace 3 and I press ctrl-F3). this causes me to lose work.
the behavior I expect is for the keypress to always be trapped.

## Description
Hi!
The bug https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7869 returns in new XFCE 4.14 release.
As you can see, nothing happens in panel buttons launchers when they are pressed.
The icon should appear to be pressed to notify user his action has been taken.
Here an example of how you can press a Thunar launcher without any button change:

Thanks a lot!

## Description
Hello.
I guess it'd be useful to introduce "disable workspace cycling" option.
When for example you reach left workspace you can't go left more ("Left workspace" hotkey just does nothing), same with rightmost workspace.
It works in Win10 this way atm.

## Description
When adding new items to the panel, the Add New Items window opens with a size of around 200x300 pixels. The first thing I do after it opens it enlarge it -- in height it shows about 6 items and the width it's too narrow to show the descriptions of many of the plugins.
I think that with today's popular screen resolutions, a default size of around 350x450 would make more sense.

## Description
In xfce-4.12 you could set the urgend notification color via bg[SELECTED] and the panel button would blink then in that color when the window is urgend without looking pushed, but in xfce-4.14 not only does the button not have the bg selection color but it just looks like a pushed button when blinking. This should be reverted as the bg selection color is much more visible than a button being pushed also button being pushed/unpushed gives a wrong impression.
This should be reverted to the button having the bg selection color again instead of being pushed. Because urgend notifications need to be much more visible than a pushed button!

## Description
Hi!
XFCE Pannel ignores font dpi configuration.
As you can see in this screenshot, the complete XFCE environtment uses 120dpi text, but panel preferences and window buttons plugin ignores that and render text with small size:

Here you can see the "about" window with different font sizes: left XFCE Panel, right (witdh right font size fonts) XFCE:

Likewise, the XFWM4 font size ignores the font configuration too (look at the dropdown menu in Window Borders):

## Description
I have the clock in format "%d %a %T", so I have seconds displayed. When the time changes from, say 20.32.00 to 20.32.01, the whole panel to the left of the clock jitters left and right. Since most digits in non-monospace fonts have different widths, it happens almost every second. This could be fixed by giving the clock a fixed width (but there is no such option) or using a monospace font, but it does not look nice having a monospace font for the whole UI.
So, could we please have the clock with a fixed width or the possibility to set a monospace font for the clock separately from the font used for the rest of the UI?

Add new property to enable/disable drag and drop of menu items
This patch is dependent of the following garcon patch: https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15981.
This patch allows a user to set a hidden "allow-dnd" xfconf key to enable/disable the drag and drop of menu items in the plugin, via:
xfconf-query -c xfce4-panel -p /plugins/plugin-7/allow-dnd -t bool -s false --create
...where "plugin-7" is the actual number of the applicationsmenu plugin on any given system.

Reproduce the problem:
1. Create a new panel on the bottom of the screen.
2. Add Pulse audio plugin.
3. Panel properties -> Display -> Horizontal
4. close panel properties.
5. Left click (and hold) on newly created audio plugin inside panel
6. `< audio plugin menu opens >`
7. < Menu will overlay the panel item. It is shown directly under the cursor >
8. stop holding mouse button
9. Menu item will be clicked (in my case audio mixer opens)
Possible bugfix:
- Make the audiomixer menu appear above the panel (as all the other menus from the panel).

Settings :
- XFCE 4.12
- Dual monitors (with duplicated top panels & bottom dock, as there is currently no other possibility to replicate panels on several monitors)
- Need to be able to switch
What I do:
- Right click on a launcher in bottom dock + Properties
- Click On "edit" icon
- Change the "command" field
- Save
What happens:
- all panels get closed and reloaded
- (but changes to launcher are saved)
What should happen
- panels should not crash
- changes should still be saved

## Description
After the recent upgrades -- to 4.14.1 -- on three different computers (running FreeBSD of different versions), there are no longer any buttons shown in the "window buttons" applet.
Not for the open applications, not for the minimized ones. None. Indeed, a minimized app can only be restored by cycling through Alt-Tab -- and, sadly, some of them (like Citrix' wfica) do not appear on that list at all.
The separate "windows menu" applet seems to work properly, but the "windows buttons" is not showing anything.
I'm surprised, this hasn't been reported yet -- maybe, something is specific about my environment... For example, I have LANG set to Ukrainian (uk_UA.KOI8-U)...

My panel with the applets systray, multiload, datetime and actions.
Since version 4.14 all applets based on GTK+ 3 are very dark or completely black. Applets based on GTK+ 2 (such as multiload-nandhp) are displayed correctly. Changing the background makes no difference. I suspect this relates to compositing which I don't use (since the window manager, Notion, that I'm using doesn't support it).

## Description
At least as far back as 4.13.1, manually setting wrap-workspaces=true no longer enables wrapping. Modifying pager.c such that the internal variable always defaults to true doesn't help. I suspected something else entirely was involved because sabotaging pager_plugin_scroll_event() with "for(;;);" has no effect either, and even setting workspace-scrolling to false does nothing-- it scrolls anyway. My guess was confirmed when I just read Bug #15154 and its resolution.
I worked around this long ago by using the wheel on the desktop instead, where wrapping still works. I set the panel width to 99% so there is always a spot of background down in the corner of the screen, which is also absurdly easy to land on with the mouse. This partly accounts for why I didn't report it sooner, and I apologize for that.
Steps to reproduce:
- add "Workspace Switcher" to panel
- in Settings Editor, navigate to xfce4-panel/plugins/plugin-NN (whichever is named 'pager')
- add a new Boolean value named wrap-workspaces and set to TRUE
- open pager Properties
- make sure "Switch workspaces using the mouse wheel" is NOT checked
Expected results:
- scrolling with mouse wheel over pager does nothing
- after re-enabling "Switch workspaces using the mouse wheel", scrolling on pager loops through all workspaces repeatedly
Actual results:
- scrolling on pager changes to previous (or next) workspace until the first (or last) one is reached, and stops
4.13.1 was built in Funtoo (1.2?) a year ago, and 4.14.1 is now built in Gentoo, both using unstable/testing package versions (~amd64). (NB: 4.12.0 is the one xfce4-panel package which Gentoo currently considers stable.) Devuan 2.0.0 is still using XFCE 4.12 as a whole and xfce4-panel-4.12.1 still works as expected.

example of Chrome and Vivaldi appearing on Cinnamon
When installing an extension like:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/lightning-reopen/ahphokgmcecbjeipkfkamcdmemghkaph
(or Pushbullet and enabling in its settings to run in background or any other extension with the background permission)
and then enabling:
Settings => System => Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed
Chrome/Chromium/Vivaldi etc shows a tray icon
But this does not work on XFCE, at least on Debian 10 (testing) and Arch with latest XFCE updates.
Didn't try Xubuntu.
On KDE, Cinnamon, Deepin etc the tray icon appears.
Also I want to point out that HTML5 Web Notifications do not work when combined with background behavior, the default behavior should be that when enabling them and closing the browser, XFCE should still show web notifications because the tray icon """keeps the browser alive""".
So if this gets fixed, then using a website like this: https://www.bennish.net/web-notifications.html
And then clicking "Shows in 5s" and then closing the browser, the tray icon should stay alive and after 5 seconds a notification should still appear.
(at least this is the default behavior on Windows from what I remember, otherwise it would be pointless to keep the browser running in the background if web notifications do not show up)
I've seen this behavior I believe since the beginning of the year so for now I will leave the Version as Unspecified.
After digging a bit I found only abandoned similar issues like:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/910531/chromium-browser-xfce-panel-indicator
But I tried Google Chrome and the tray icon does not show on Debian 10 (testing) with "Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed " enabled and Lightning Reopen installed.
And decided to file this report.
I tried various applications but it seems that ONLY Chromium derivatives do not appear ONLY on XFCE, so it's a strange combination of XFCE+Chromium

## Description
The xfce4-panel tooltip doesn't show up when the cursor theme is too big.
I have tried https://www.gnome-look.org/p/1197198/ cursor theme with the max available size (48), and the tooltip is shows bottom of the panel, which is outside the viewport.
Reducing the cursor size fixes the issue.

## Description
Hi, everyone. With xfce4-panel 4.14.3, the Applications Menu button is incongruously non-square, i.e., its vertical length is longer than the horizontal length; whereas with xfce4-panel 4.14.1, it was square along with all the other buttons other than the Clock button (which is non-square due to the length of the text within it).
Also, the icon buttons in the Notification Area are not centered when the "Show frame" option is checked, but are instead shifted to the bottom right.
Here is a screenshot of how said elements appear with xfce4-panel 4.14.3:

It doesn't matter what theme I have tested this with, the results are the same.
And here is a screenshot of said elements' congruous appearance with xfce4-panel 4.14.1 (the Notification Area "Show frame" option with this version does nothing):

Location plugin menu
When I select a panel to span across multiple monitors, the context menu popup location on the extended monitor appears at the monitor boundary instead of the object position.
In the first attachment, I show the popup menu location when clicking on the Directory Menu plugin - the cursor position is highlighted by a red pointer (above the folder-shaped icon).
In the 2nd attachment, I show the right-click context menu for a window titlebar on the WIndows Buttons plugin - again, the cursor is shown as red pointer.
In both cases, this behavior appears to be independent of the plugin, but common to the panel setting, so I suspect this is panel's bug.
let me know if there is a setting or workaround.

## Description
Its an odd one.
I am based in Ireland. We had time changed just recently. Daylight changes. And this is how issue got triggered.
Once time changed i noticed one hour difference.
Restarted X, relogged into console, same story. One hour difference.
Where does XFCE4 Clock is taking its data zone info from?
I realised i had wrong time zone. I changed it to dublin time zone.
It did not change much, because I am in UTC zone as is.
I am gentoo user. And I am positively sure that my clock settings are set up correctly. (ntp syncronised, and 'date' command from console is set up correctly and shows correct time)
After clock changed - i have Xfce clock one hour behind. I installed Xclock for shit and giggles, and it worked just fine. It shows time correct under my user.
Killing Xorg and starting 'startxfce' did not help.(startxfce is started as user from console) I did not restart machine, because I wanted to have reliable way to recreate issue in case someone asked to reproduce problem.
I realised i had wrong time zone(i think it was set to UTC and not to my time zone). I changed it to dublin time zone.
It did not change much, because I am in UTC zone as is.I realised i had wrong time zone. I changed it to dublin time zone.

echo LC_TIME - produced no result under root or user.
and i would not be a gentoo user if I did not fuck with things.
So I deleted app from panel.
Added it back. And my jaw dropped.Correct time is now seen.
Bug still remains I am afraid, but its rather tricky to reproduce for average Joe. I could, but I am too lazy.
Devs, please keep me lazy and solve this annoying little bug!

I like to use the window buttons expanded to fill the panel where the tasklist is. That way, I noticed that when you right-click on a window, the context menu opens in a fixed position, always at the beginning of the window button, next to the program icon. I think the menu should open in the direction where it was clicked.

They work fine if I omit the `-p`, opening the menu on my panel, but with `-p` they just don't do anything.
`xfce4-popup-whiskermenu -p` however works just fine!
Nothing shows up in dmesg or journalctl. I am getting the following in ~/.xsession-errors:

2. Set your main gtk theme to a light theme (eg Arc-Lighter or Adwaita)
3. Set your icon theme to match with a light icon theme (eg Papirus-Light)
4. Set your panel to use a dark mode
5. Notice how icons some icons in the panel are very dim as they are using the light icons (i think?), and notice how if you switch to a dark icon theme (eg Papirus-Dark) they look correct (but then icons within apps look incorrect).
# What I expected to happen
I expected for either
* the ability to set a custom icon theme to a dark one
* a dark icon theme to be selected automatically
* if these are all symbolic icons (?) could this be solved automatically
# Notes
* I am note sure if the only icons which are affected are ones that are symbolic ?
* Note that the panel settings page is also affected by this (eg it's UI is in dark mode but the icons are not visible)
* I have not worked out how to get other panel plugins working when building my own xfce4-panel yet - so unsure how other plugins are affected (and hence my odd looking panels :-) )

To say that it's annoying and feels error-prone is to say nothing. Here are my observations and reasons why I believe this should be reworked:
1. Now when `xfce4-panel` is wrapped with a `systemd` service unit, in the `systemd` Journal, I see output spam (essentially `stdout` and `stderr`) coming from all sorts of different applications that were started via `xfce4-panel`, e.g. from Chromium:
```
Jun 22 02:15:55 g75vw xfce4-panel[1903]: [10737:10737:0622/021555.811459:ERROR:gles2_cmd_decoder.cc(5759)]
GLES2DecoderImpl::ResizeOffscreenFramebuffer failed because offscreen FBO was incomplete.
Jun 22 02:15:55 g75vw xfce4-panel[1903]: [10737:10737:0622/021555.811606:ERROR:gles2_cmd_decoder.cc(3984)]
ContextResult::kFatalFailure: Could not allocate offscreen buffer storage.
```
and this is just one small example. Essentially, `stdout` and `stderr` of `xfce4-panel` become littered and overloaded with totally irrelevant stuff, not to mention journal itself.
2. `systemd` by default would kill children upon termination of unit. However, in context of GUI panel, launchers, menus, and etc. this does not make any sense because processes that are launched are logically not supposed to be owned by those, and should rather continue to run independently and user is supposed to take care of them as he/she started them in the first place. Hence, unless the following is added:
```
[Service]
...
KillMode=process
```
restarting or stopping `xfce4-panel` would cause a big bang for all applications opened so far.
3. Once again, user applications are no supposed to be owned by GUI panels, launchers, menus, and etc. They should become independent top-level processes. Please, use classic `setsid` and double-forking to achieve that daemon-like behavior. For brevity, I'm plugging a quality and well-tested POSIX shell implementation of what I mean (this can be easily translated into C, plus there are plenty of reading and examples in C on that topic too):
```shell
daemon() (
# --------------------------------------------------------------------------
# NOTE:
#
# The following snippet implements the classic and well-known daemon
# spawning approach via double-forking:
#
# 1. 'fork' --- create the first child process that is not the process
# group leader (the surrounding subshell);
# 2. 'setsid' --- create the new session, set the process group ID (become
# the process group leader of the newly created process group), and
# execute ('execve') the specified program (the non-interactive shell to
# create the second child process);
# 3. 'fork' --- create the second child process to execute the actual
# intended program as daemon (the non-interactive shell applying control
# operator <ampersand> '&' to the positional arguments representing the
# actual intended program to be executed as daemon).
#
# If job control is disabled (and it is here), both utility 'setsid' and
# control operator <ampersand> '&' (asynchronous execution of the preceding
# command) redirect the standard input, before any explicit redirection(s)
# are performed, to '/dev/null'. Hence, there is no need to explicitly
# apply that redirection, so only file descriptors of the standard output
# and the standard error require explicit treatment:
#
close && CDPATH= cd -- '/' && umask 0 && \
exec setsid "${SHELL:-sh}" -e -u -c '"${@}" 1> /dev/null 2>&1 &' \
daemon "${@}"
# --------------------------------------------------------------------------
)
```
where `close` is a function that closes all open file descriptors. You won't need to create a nested shell invocation to achieve the behavior of `&` in C of course, just a `fork` without `wait`.https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-panel/-/issues/301Position of window button tooltips not correct when moving mouse across buttons2023-12-22T23:27:56ZYousuf PhilipsPosition of window button tooltips not correct when moving mouse across buttons![tooltip_position-2020-06-25_06.02.32](/uploads/f96fed0989889c46c11427e6c4725abf/tooltip_position-2020-06-25_06.02.32.mp4)![tooltip_position-2020-06-25_06.02.32](/uploads/f96fed0989889c46c11427e6c4725abf/tooltip_position-2020-06-25_06.02.32.mp4)https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-panel/-/issues/302Allow window button icons to increase to 24px size2023-09-07T16:48:26ZYousuf PhilipsAllow window button icons to increase to 24px sizePresently window button icons are either 16px or 32px depending on the size of the panel, but allowing the 24px icon size is also important, especially when 'show button labels' are disabled.

As can be seen in the picture below, I set up a LC_TIME=en_DK.utf8 in my system's locale and Europe/Paris as the clock's "locale", but the calendar still displays the Sundays as first day of the week, whereas in these locales it should be Mondays.

I would like to control when pulseaudio runs, and noticed that it was
being started by unknown parties. Digging into that I came up with a
simple test case as follows:
0. I disabled pulseaudio autostart in /etc/xdg/autostart/pulseaudio.desktop
1. on lightdm logged into an openbox session
2. started urxvt
3. confirmed that pulseaudio was not running
4. started the xfce terminal
5. pulseaudio immediately started running.
Why???

If I log into a xfce session then pulseaudio also gets started even if
I don't start the xfce terminal. In the xfce panel I have a bunch of
xfce plugins configured.
My test was with the bells disabled in xfce terminal (audible and visible).
I do not have the xfce pulseaudio plugin installed. Pulseaudio gets started even if I start the terminal with the --disable-server option.
I tried 5 other VTE based terminals: lxterminal, tilix, termite,
terminator and gnome. Gnome was the only one that did not start
pulseaudio, and also the only one that started nearly instantaneously.
All the others, including xfce-terminal, took a second or two to
start. It seems from my tests that the reason pulseaudio gets started is systemd socket activation.
I am on Arch Linux.
Although I think this is a minor issue, there may be advantages in fixing it.https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-panel/-/issues/310Preferences: Number of rows slider is longer than Row size and Length2022-04-05T09:46:20ZMarcoPreferences: Number of rows slider is longer than Row size and Length```

I'm Debian xfce 4.14 user. I notice that some native applications like clementine or steam when minimized on bottom right corner there's no way to restore window at the middle of the screen. When click on bottom icon there's a mini popup window with some program options (like play previous track, play next track, stop playing, pause playing in the example with clementine), but there's no way to restore the window on the screen. The same with steam. On the previous version of xfce, 4.12, this bug there was not.
Thanks.

What Happens: This happens with Greybird and Adwaita
- The dialog uses a mix of light and dark theme
What should happen:
- The whole window gets dark or light, but not a mismatch of colors.

I've seen a few issues about wrong placement of dialog boxes in dual/multi monitor configs. This is not my case: most dialog are correctly placed.
Unfortunately, EVERY time I right click on a panel launcher icon, click on "Properties", then on the "edit" icon, the "Edit Launcher" dialog box appears right in the middle of my 2 screens/monitors and I have to move it manually to be able to use it. And it does it everytime, if I move it, then close, then reopen it, it does not remember the new position.
Other dialog boxes do not have this problem, someone must have hardcoded the placement for this one...https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-panel/-/issues/345[Request] Xfce4 panel size by pixel length2022-04-05T10:16:22Zq64ceo[Request] Xfce4 panel size by pixel lengthHowdy!

I would like to request that along with a percentage slider for the length of the panel that a pixel length can be used as well. One sets the pixel size for the row size but the length does not use that.
I have two panels, one on top and one on the left hand of the screen. I have the one on the left at 100% and the one on the top at 98%. They over-lap one another ever so slightly but it is very noticeable. I've tried various row-sizes to match the two but unfortunately the panel is either too big or too small to get it perfectly aligned.
