I'm posting this as FreeBSD ports committer maintaining the XFCE ports.
A user reported the issue here:
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=264801
I tested in a virtual machine and simply installing and enabling ibus causes the issue to appear.
The program hangs indefinitely without showing a window when launched.
When launching the software with "truss" to try to observe it, I was trying to understand where it was hanging, it starts without problems. So I'm thinking it deadlocks in some part related to ibus.
I don't know how to further investigate this.
If someone could give indications on how to debug it or some further testing I'll try to execute it.https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-appfinder/-/issues/68Collapsed mode is not so collapsed anymore2023-05-07T09:15:57ZAndre MirandaCollapsed mode is not so collapsed anymoreWith b265e35f, now it's possible to resize the collapse window height, leading to this:

It's no big deal, next time `xfce4-appfinder -c` is launched or going to expanded and back to collapsed mode will properly resize the window, IMO it's better than breaking the app when scale > 1, see #49 for more details.

Fuzzy search is very useful, it tolerates typos and make the searching experience easier. Unfortunately it also creates not so good results as the search scope is too broad.
My idea of improvement is to use fuzzy search only for the application name and plain string matching within the other fields.Xfce 4.20Andre MirandaAndre Mirandahttps://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-appfinder/-/issues/56Collapsed mode requires extra Enter key stroke and it's case sensitive2023-05-07T09:14:14ZfulalasCollapsed mode requires extra Enter key stroke and it's case sensitiveI wish collapsed mode could work just like expanded mode where you type for instance 'term' (for terminal), choose what you want with DOWN key and press ENTER just once to open the given application. In the first part of the video you'll also notice that when we go down in the drop down using the keyboard, the icon at left doesn't get updated -- maybe this is related to main issue I'm talking about.
This issue started to happen when the method `xfce_appfinder_model_fuzzy_match()` was introduced.
In the second part of the video you'll notice that collapsed mode is case sensitive (which doesn't make sense), while in expanded mode it's case insensitive.

Now I want to quickly select the OnlyOffice app, and the first app is already selected, so my brain tells me to use the right arrow on my keyboard in order to select it (to move the selector). But I can't. I have to press the down arrow once, and then the right one to move the selector. ## Description
This is against git master from a few weeks ago.
If it doesn't apply I'll rebase it, but right now I'm copying directly from a different report as is.
The explanation is also more or less copied.
Take the following situation.
1. For some reason we have the well-known name owned by someone, but this someone doesn't answer connections.
2. We have timeouts, making startup slow.
3. After the timeouts, we try to take ownership of the name, which is probably reasonable.
The way appfinder works now, the following happens:
1. We make a mistake. We use g_dbus_own_name and take its return value as meaningful proof that we're now the owner, when it always returns non-zero and is asynchronous. We have no idea if we own the name until after we run gtk_main_loop.
2. We think we own the name, and thus are the server, so we must not die on close.
This happened in the context of issue #15623.
The attached patch takes care of it by using an explicit message to synchronously ask for ownership and detect whether it was granted.
This way, if a server is running but doesn't answer, the new process realizes it isn't the server itself, so it must die when the window is closed, thus avoiding lingering processes.
This is the original patch, as attached to #15623: https://bugzilla.xfce.org/attachment.cgi?id=8733
I'm not sure if downloading and reattaching is mandatory, but of course will do if asked so.
It just seemed more practical this way.

I think that commands autocompleted from .desktop should be added to the history file and that they are not listed more than once in the completion list. That's my interpretation, I need to check if there is any real reason for the current behavior.Xfce 4.20Andre MirandaAndre Mirandahttps://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-appfinder/-/issues/36The more characters are being typed in the more heavy/sluggish/unresponsive i...2022-11-22T12:36:39ZSophoklis GoumasThe more characters are being typed in the more heavy/sluggish/unresponsive it getsTry it for yourself:

I've noticed that custom actions only seem to work when running with `--collapsed`. I find this confusing. It requires me to make two separate application shortcuts inside of XFCE for the application finder: one that I can use custom actions from, and then another where I can view the full application menu.
To summarize:
The finder's "launch" button remains disabled when typing a custom action in expanded mode. I would like to be able to use my custom actions in expanded mode.

Add a option to program to run with position on top and center of monitor just like Appruner in KDE(picture in attachment). And by option I mean something like "--collapsed". Then will be cool to have option in xfdesktop for start appfinder when cursor is focused on desktop and we start typing.

When using custom commands in collapsed mode, it would be good to have indication of which custom command will be run before pressing enter.
For example if i typed '!w xubuntu' which will open in wikipedia, it would be good to show below the input field 'Wikipedia: xubuntu'.

## Description
Hi,
a Debian user reported an issue with appfinder. He's using a setup where he has two $DISPLAY handled by the same Xserver (thus two xfwm4, afaict).
In his situation, when he xfrun4/xfce4-appfinder, they always appear on the same DISPLAY, since it's usually a dbus call to the already running process.
Same situation exists with xfce4-terminal (bug #10133).
Downstream bug report is at http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=715313
