Thunar freezes when opening a new tab in an NFS share directory

If you have a tab open to a directory in an NFS share, and click "new tab", thunar freezes for a length of time that is proportional to the number of items in the directory. I assume it's re-reading the directory or something to open it in the new tab, which seems unnecessary to me as whatever data it needs could just be copied over from the old tab.
