Feature Request: Add Option to Disable or Confirm Drag-and-Drop in Thunar

Issue Description

In Thunar File Manager, I often accidentally move files or folders when I unintentionally drag and drop them. This behavior can lead to unwanted file relocations and data disorganization. The problem becomes especially risky when i sometimes need to run Thunar as root. A small unintentional drag-and-drop can move critical files without any warning or confirmation, potentially breaking parts of the system.

Currently, there is no option to disable or confirm drag-and-drop moves, which makes it easy to accidentally move items without warning.

Steps to Reproduce Issue

  1. Open Thunar File Manager.
  2. Select a file or folder.
  3. Drag the item and release it over a different folder within the same folder.
  4. The file or folder is moved.

Expected Behavior

I would like to have an option to disable drag-and-drop moves or at least add a confirmation prompt before moving files and folders. This would help prevent accidental moves and improve file management safety.

Additional Information

I’ve researched this issue quite a bit and found that many users have raised similar concerns over the years.
