Horizontal scroll touchpad gesture not working in Compact view

Two finger horizontal scrolling in Thunar seems to have broken for me between Fedora 33 (Xfce 4.14 / Thunar 1.8.15) and Fedora 34 (Xfce 4.16 / Thunar 4.16). I've tested live USB images of both and can reproduce it with a stock config, as well as on current EndeavorOS and another laptop (HP Chromebook.) Scrolling up and down with 2 fingers works, but since Compact view scrolls from left to right, I have always swiped left to right. I installed Caja 1.26.1 and can swipe horizontally to scroll in its Compact mode.
