Overlay effect missing on FreeBSD 13

Hi there,

I have some issues with this plugin and FreeBSD 13, the most visible one is the lack of the overlay effect when you move the mouse over the pinned applications. Other issues are probably under the hood but I couldn't get any info since I am starting XFCE from virtual console, but I may install a login manager to get more info (I guess) so far the best insight I have is a screenshot:
