X.org selection gets lost when an application (window) gets closed

Description

This feature has never worked and it's kinda annoying.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Make a selection in any X.org application
2. Close this application or application window
3. Switch to another application
4. Middle mouse click: nothing gets pasted

It would be great if you fixed/implemented it.
