Add toolbar button to toggle tree view?

Currently toggling list vs. tree view requires entering the settings, searching for the checkbox, toggling it, and closing the settings dialog. I think it would be more convenient if the toolbar had a button to toggle tree view (or 2-3 buttons to switch between list, tree, and other views). Can this be implemented?
