Playlist does not save in 4.16.0-1

can add files to playlist and then choose a location and even select the filetype, but the save button does not save the playlist. new folders can be created ok, but still no playlist is saved. no errors are reported when running parole via the terminal. parole is version 4.16.0-1, system is xubuntu 22.04 development and 20.04 LTS parole version 1.0.5-1 works as it should on both o/s versions (I downgraded as a temporary 'fix')
