Problem creating recurrent weekly events

When creating a weekly event, on the Recurrence tab the weekday selected by default is today's weekday instead of the weekday of the event's start date. This can (and has for me) resulted in confusion.

For example, I create an event starting Feb 14 2024 (a Wednesday). On the Recurrence tab, I set Frequency to Weekly. The selected weekday should obviously be Wednesday. Having it default to today's weekday (e.g.Friday) is counter-intuitive.
